Precious metal alloys do not change rapidly. Traditional alloys like sterling silver have not changed from 92.5% Ag/7.5% Cu for about 300 years. This paper will discuss the development of several comparatively recently evolved alloys, in particular, karat-rated yellow and white gold alloys, palladium alloys with specific attributes, and the recently developed firescale-free sterling silver alloys.
