2019 - Approaches to Designing, Crafting and Manufacturing Jewelry Made in Whole or Part with Contemporary Metals

Titanium was the first contemporary element to be introduced to the fine jewelry market in the early 1980s. It rapidly became monumentally successful and led the way for other contemporary materials. The technologies for crafting these materials were in the embryonic stages and, in most cases, totally unique to those being used for centuries in working with traditional materials like silver, gold, platinum and palladium. This paper and presentation will describe the processes sequentially as they were developed from the early days through today, from one basic material to multiple materials and stones.
