In the CAD/CAM environment, the ability to capture the complete internal and external geometry from a complex object has been limited and costly. Recently, a new series of Micro-CT desktop scanning devices has emerged and along with advancements in the Windows operating system, these technologies will provide for a cost-effective method to import complex geometries directly into CAD libraries. This paper will explore this emerging technology as a utility in digitizing handmade jewelry findings and designs. In addition, we consider the new software programs that will be needed to make Micro-CT data suitable for interactive CAD applications.
