The general request from the market for health-safe products is a clear indication also for the gold jewelry sector. Currently, with few exceptions, nickel and palladium are used as whitening metals in the productions of 18K white gold. This study considers new possibilities for the development of alloys for 18K white gold without nickel and palladium, discussing the main advantages and disadvantages connected with the introduction of this new generation of alloys.
